Hi, I’m Alyssa.
I am an artist, creative maker & beauty professional based in Hartford, CT. I’m the hands & heart behind Born & Bred salon/studio.
The space is home to my single-chair salon & art workbench. It houses a handful of my own history; including family heirlooms, cherished art, mementos & meaningful things I have collected along the way. The space bears the fruits of my journey to get here, shines light on my own self-discovery and helps tell the story of who I am.
My beauty work focuses on finding joy in being exactly who you are. Haircutting & color services for all people are offered in-studio, by appointment. Hair styling & makeup application are available in-studio or on location for weddings & events..
My creative studio sits across the hall & my art works aim to use found items to create a multitude of goods. This includes custom keepsakes, resin preserved organic matter in form of jewelry, wearable art, home décor & sewn bags, blankets & pouches. My focus is to use materials bound for the garbage in hopes it will help us find new perspective in the items we have & find beauty in what we would otherwise skim over.

I have found that almost all of the things I find joy in doing have some connection to my lineage. My grandmother was a cosmetologist, my grandfather was a woodworker. All in all, the pillars of my ancestry are upheld by tradesmen & women -folks who made a living by working with their hands. Working within my industry and creating my art enables me to weave a narrative that helps honor my familial legacy.
The name Born & Bred comes from a simple notion: This is who I am.
It is more than the city I’m from, more than the jobs I’ve had; more than the people I’ve crossed paths with.
The name is about who you are too. You are who you are because of where you’ve been. You can embody elements of your past that make you feel powerful, or grant the space to learn something new about yourself.
You are born & bred to be exactly who you are and who you want to become.
